After Nearly 30 Years Together, Kevin Bacon Has Opened Up About His Marriage To Kyra Sedgwick

With nearly 30 years as man and wife, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have been married almost the entirety of their careers. Despite living in the spotlight, though, the two remain as normal as any other married couple. And Bacon’s hilarious admission on their 29th anniversary shows just how adorably down to earth they are.

With many years in showbiz, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are undeniably recognizable to everyone. But – like any budding stars – the two were relative unknowns when they hooked up while filming Lemon Sky in 1987. Indeed, the then-22-year-old Sedgwick had only a handful of roles to her name.

In contrast to his relatively inexperienced future partner, though, Bacon was just beginning to break through. Thanks to 1984’s Footloose, the star was already accustomed to leading Hollywood crowd-pleasers to the bank. Nevertheless, a less-than-starstruck Sedgwick was left thoroughly unimpressed by Bacon.

Indeed, Sedgwick was initially cold to her co-star’s charms. Speaking to Redbook magazine in 2008, she explained, “He definitely wasn’t my type. In fact, I vividly remember looking at his butt when he walked away after we first met and thinking, ‘Well, I guess some girls like that.’”

But although Lemon Sky marked the first time the pair worked together, it wasn’t exactly the first time the two met. Strangely enough, a 12-year-old Sedgwick once approached Bacon after seeing him in a play. “Her brother said, ‘You like that actor, go tell him you like him,’” he told Craig Ferguson in 2014, “and it was Kyra.”

After putting her initial reservations behind her, Sedgwick agreed to go out with Bacon. And it didn’t take long for the pair to realize they were destined for each other. To illustrate, Bacon – as Sedgwick told Redbook – asked the actress what she thought about having children on one of their very first dates.

Certainly the pair wasted no time in committing to each other and a family. Just one year after they first got together, Bacon and Sedgwick tied the knot. Shortly after their nuptials, the pair welcomed their first son Travis into the world followed by a daughter Sosie in 1992.

To this day, Sedgwick still can’t believe how lucky her life has panned out to be. “If someone told me that at 22 I was going to meet the man I was going to marry and at 23 I would marry him and have a child,” she explained to Redbook, “I would have told them they were out of their mind.”

As the years progressed, Bacon and Sedgwick supported each other in both their careers and family duties. When Sedgwick was offered a role in The Closer in 2005, for example, she had to leave the family home in Manhattan and move to LA. But Bacon encouraged her every step of the way.

Nevertheless, the pair’s lives have also had moments of strain. In particular, they were conned out of millions by notorious fraudster Bernie Madoff in 2009. “We kind of said though, ‘Well, our families are okay… we’ll get back to work,’” Bacon told Haute Living in 2015. “What else are you going to do?”

Through thick and thin, Bacon and Sedgwick’s relationship has remained as strong as ever. So strong, in fact, that last month marked the pair’s 29th wedding anniversary. And to mark this special occasion, Bacon decided to spread the love on social media.

In the first of three Instagram posts, Bacon shared a lovingly intimate photo of the two embracing as a young couple. Bordered by what appears to be a frame, the snap seems to be one from the pair’s private collection. Indeed, his caption “Happy day to my life love” makes clear its personal overtones.

Shortly afterwards, Bacon posted another throwback shot. Like the last photo, this pic sees the younger couple in a loving embrace. However, this time the pair are joined by their two adorable dogs, Tybalt and Jane, who sadly didn’t make it to their special moment.

Naturally, his photos led to an outpouring of love from the actor’s online followers. “You guys are an inspiration to everyone!” wrote one fan jdouglas74804. “God bless!” Meanwhile, woody.woodward enthused, “So happy you prove Hollywood marriages can last.”

But Bacon saved the best for last with his final post. Instead of showing him and Sedgwick together in their youth, the image showed something much more personal – a screenshot of texts between the two. And its appealing mundanity confirms how normal their lives are behind closed doors.

Like most domestic conversations, Bacon and Sedgwick’s message concerns food – namely, a carrot the former ate before an upcoming meal. As Sedgwick rolls her eyes, reminding him that, “It was for the soup,” Bacon swiftly apologizes before – like any good hubby – offering to “run to da store” for another.

Sweet and sincere, the text offers a snapshot into the couple’s daily routine. And Bacon wouldn’t trade this comfort for anything in the world. Indeed, he told Good Housekeeping in 2013, “Being with Kyra is… the easiest aspect of my life. I know that I don’t need a beach or room service to be happy.”

Similarly – as she confessed to Redbook – Sedgwick feels the same way. “Both of our lives are an open book in a way,” she revealed, “because we are so boring. We’ve been married for so long and there are no secrets.”

Despite this, the actress admits that she still finds wonderful new discoveries within their relationship. “I never in a million years thought there would be sides to Kevin that I’m still learning… I’m constantly amazed that we are still surprised and interested in each other.”

So, with so many Hollywood romances failing, Bacon and Sedgwick’s relationship shows that true love can last in Tinseltown. And Bacon’s touching revelations have made their anniversary all the more special. We can’t wait to see what he unveils on their 30th.
