The Most Unnerving Game Show Scandals In TV History

Game shows are a crazy segment of television. Ordinary people get their fifteen minutes of fame for showcasing elite trivia skills and problem-solving techniques — oh, and there are usually thousands, if not millions, of dollars on the line! But behind the glossy sheen of a fine-tuned production, a lot can go wrong on set. The guy who cheated his way to success on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' doesn't even take the cake for the most unusual game show scandal out there!

'Million Pound Drop's' Big Mixup

On the American version of Million Pound Drop in 2010, Gabe Okoye and Brittany Mayti were asked "Which of these was sold in stores first?" The options were the Macintosh computer, Sony Walkman, and Post-it notes. They answered Post-it notes, but the show said it was the Sony Walkman. This led to problems.

Answer Uproar

Viewers researched and proved that Post-its came first, prompting the producer to release a statement saying it would be fair to invite the couple back on the show. Unfortunately, it got canceled before they had the chance!

'Twenty-One' Lies

Herb Stempel was undefeated for six weeks in a row on Twenty-One, but the ratings weren’t too hot. Producers took matters into their own hands, and it got nasty thanks to a special opponent they brought in named Charles Van Doren.

Fake Contender

The big secret was that Twenty-One was totally scripted, right down to the questions and the contestants' fabricated stories. Producers forced Stempel to miss questions and gave Charles a heads up of those he would be asked. Herb later blew the cover off the whole act!
